Life makes beautiful patterns. I imagine all the data gathered about us will someday end up as wall patterns in the spaces we live. A way to see ourselves, understand more about who we are - in the future we’ll consume our data as wall size art patterns. This installation is a year of location data in the city of Austin manifest as little blocky pattern. I hope people see this work and think about the places they go, the patterns they make as they move thru the day. Waiting at a stoplight is not tiresome, but will produce little bright bits of color. Taking a walk leaves a trail of your favorite little colored blocks. Highway speeds produce long cool colors.
I built this wall at Facebook Austin office in 2018 from handcut leather on wood blocks in the same manner the iphone app FRICKbits (now opensource on github) tracked your location and turned it into art!
